Every roundup published in the last six months lists the same three names for Sausalito's waterfront: Cultivar, Suzette, and Piccino Sul Mare. Scroll through them quickly enough and you'd think all three are sitting there on Bridgeway right now, waiting for a Tuesday night reservation. They're not. One has been quietly open since before most of these lists existed. One opened in February. One is still a website with a "coming soon" banner and no announced date.
If you live here, that distinction is the whole story. It determines where you're actually eating this month and what you're still waiting on.
The one that opened twice this year, in a sense
Cultivar Sausalito opened February 17, 2026, at 690 Bridgeway, on the corner of El Portal, directly across from the ferry terminal. The building dates to 1915 and spent most of the last century as the Hotel Sausalito, with a ground floor that cycled through tenants until Caffè Tutti closed there in 2020. Owners Gingy Harris Gable and Jody Harris, a brother-and-sister team with three generations of Napa Valley farming behind them, spent north of $4 million and more than three years gutting and rebuilding the space with Yinger Studios, Lucy McCormick Design, and Sutro Architects.
"It's been a long, long process," Jody Harris told the Press Democrat, "but we're very excited with the results."
What that process produced is a 4,500-square-foot dining room, three times the size of the original Cultivar location in San Francisco, built around a Valoriani wood-fired oven shipped from Tuscany. The menu runs grass-fed beef and pork meatballs, coriander and sesame crusted tuna, and a wood-fired pizza list, alongside garden-to-glass cocktails made with produce from the family's Caspar Estate gardens in Napa. When it opened, dinner service ran nightly starting at 5 p.m., with lunch and happy hour slated to follow in the months after. If you've been meaning to try it and assumed it had a full daytime menu by now, it's worth calling ahead before you plan a lunch there.
The one that's been right here the whole time
Suzette Café & Bistro, at 633 Bridgeway, is the restaurant most of these lists treat as new. It isn't, not really. Chefs Olivier and Susannah Souvestre opened it as an all-day French café well before Cultivar broke ground, and it has spent that time building the kind of local following that doesn't need a launch announcement: a dog-friendly patio with water views, a brunch menu that runs from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m., and a dinner service that takes over after, with French onion soup, steak frites, escargot, and mussels done marinière or in a more modern romesco style. The restaurant is open seven days a week, 8 a.m. to 8:30 p.m.
The reason Suzette keeps appearing in "new restaurant" content isn't that it's new. It's that it's good enough to keep getting rediscovered, and grouping it with genuinely new openings is an easy way to pad a list. For a resident, the useful fact isn't that Suzette exists. It's that Suzette has had enough runway to become dependable, which is a different and more useful thing to know before a Friday night.
The one that isn't open yet
Piccino Sul Mare is the third name on every list, and it's the one where the gap between coverage and reality is widest. The restaurant comes from the team behind Piccino, the Dogpatch fixture that's operated in San Francisco since 2006, and it will be the group's first location outside the city, with Executive Chef Daniella Banchero leading the kitchen under founders Margherita Sagan and Sheryl Rogat. The plan is a waterfront room serving the same rotating menu of antipasti, hand-tossed pizza, and house-made pasta that built the brand across town, much of it built on produce from Piccino's own farm in Healdsburg.
Construction has been underway through the first half of the year, and the restaurant's own site still reads simply as "coming soon," with no confirmed opening date. If you've seen it listed alongside Cultivar and Suzette as somewhere to book this fall, treat that as aspirational. There's a real restaurant coming. It isn't seating anyone yet.

Why the sequencing actually matters
Three restaurants landing on the same six-block stretch of waterfront in the same year isn't background noise. It's a shift in what Bridgeway is for. For a long time, the honest local read on that strip was that it existed for day-trippers and the occasional out-of-town guest you wanted to impress with a view. Residents ate there when someone was visiting and drove into San Francisco or up to San Anselmo the rest of the time.
What's changed is variety within walking distance. Suzette covers the all-day, dog-on-the-patio register. Cultivar covers a proper dinner-out night, wood-fired and a little more occasion-driven. Piccino Sul Mare, once it opens, adds a third register again, casual Italian with a wine list, without needing a car for any of it. That's the difference between a strip you visit and a rotation you actually use.
Three weekends to actually go use it
The next month gives you real reasons to be down there anyway, which makes this a good stretch to test the new rotation rather than wait for it to feel obligatory.

Jazz and Blues by the Bay has four Fridays left this season, running through September 25, which happens to be the same weekend the Boat Show opens at Clipper Yacht Harbor for three days of sailboats, powerboats, and waterfront vendors. The Chili Cook-Off lands the weekend before, at Dunphy Park, with unlimited tasting wristbands, a hot pepper eating contest at 1 p.m., and this year's theme built around local sports teams and games.
None of these events require a dinner reservation to enjoy. But if you're already down at Dunphy Park on September 19 or wandering the harbor for the boat show on the 26th, the honest answer to "where should we eat after" now has three real options instead of the same two you've been rotating for years, plus one on the way.
Restaurant openings don't happen at random, and a cluster like this one on a single stretch of waterfront usually says something about where an area's momentum is headed.
